Dos And Don'ts Of Dental Health
You shouldn't take your teeth for granted, because you can lose them and find yourself needing to replace them if you don't treat them right. If you do lose your teeth, it isn't something you can simply ignore because it will lead to other problems. Along with helping you eat, speak and show emotion, your teeth also have the important role of helping your face maintain its shape and your bone to maintain a healthy bone density. Here are some important dos and don'ts of taking care of the teeth you have:
The dos of tooth care
Brush at least two times a day
You should at least be brushing your teeth when you wake up in the morning and before you go to bed at night. However f you can fit a mid-day tooth brushing in then you will be helping to fend off cavities all that much more. Now, if you wear braces, then you should be brushing after every single meal to remove the food particles that get caught in the braces.
Floss after you eat a meal
After you eat a meal you should floss to remove anything that has made its way between your teeth. If you aren't able to floss right away then there is another option; you can chew a piece of sugarless gum instead. It will basically do the same thing as floss when it pulls food particles out from between your teeth.
Eat a well-rounded diet
When you eat a well-rounded diet you will be giving your entire body the vitamins, minerals and other nutrients it needs for optimum health, including your teeth. If you know you have a problem getting enough calcium each day, it's important for you to take supplements.
The don'ts of tooth care
Don't open bottles with your teeth
If you aren't a person who opens bottles with your teeth then this may seem like an odd thing to suggest not doing. However, there are a lot of people who have no problem opening bottles without a bottle opener because they simply use their teeth. This is a great way to break your teeth.
Don't bite your fingernails
Biting your fingernails is a filthy habit that transfers a lot of germs into your mouth. On top of this, it also puts you at risk of getting nail splinters lodged between your teeth where they can work their way into your gum and cause infection.
Don't drink energy drinks
Energy drinks are extremely bad for you. Not only are they bad for your health, but they are also horrible for your teeth. They increase your risk of cavities and they can quickly cause your teeth to become stained.
