When Your Body Attacks Your Teeth: Combating Autoimmune Dental Problems

5 Reasons Invisalign May Be A Preferred Alignment Option For You

There are multiple options available for people who want to have their teeth straightened. However, some adults prefer Invisalign. Here are a few reasons why Invisalign may be a preferred option for your tooth alignment:

Appearance

If your teeth are misaligned, you may already be uncomfortable with the look of your mouth. The metal brackets of traditional braces can draw even more attention to your mouth when you smile, eat or speak.

Invisalign aligners are transparent, so they are barely noticeable when worn. Each aligning tray is worn over your teeth in a manner similar to a mouth guard. However, the aligners are not bulky. They are made of thin plastic and are custom-designed for your mouth.

No Reason to Eat Self-consciously

People who wear metal braces are often cautious when eating because food particles can easily become trapped in the metal brackets. In addition, some foods, such as taffy, may stick to a metal appliance and damage it.

Invisalign aligning trays are removable, so you can take them out before eating and consume your food in the manner you did before you started your orthodontic treatment.

No Change to Your Teeth-cleaning Regimen

The removable nature of Invisalign also makes it easy to clean your teeth. Since you don't have to maneuver around an archwire, brackets or elastic ligatures, brushing and flossing are not cumbersome and require no special tools.

Still, after cleaning your teeth, it is important to reinsert your aligners. The aligners should be worn between 20 and 22 hours daily to keep your treatment progress on track.

No More Painful than Braces

Invisalign is often considered less painful than traditional braces. Still, some discomfort is associated with the use of a new set of aligners. Each set of aligners is worn for around two weeks before the next set in your treatment plan is used.

Since the aligners apply pressure to shift the teeth into position, some mild pain is expected. However, the added discomfort only lasts about two or three days and around 83 percent of Invisalign wearers become acclimated to their new aligners within a week.

Similar Cost to Traditional Braces

Treatment with Invisalign typically costs between $4,000 and $7,400. Traditional metal braces are usually priced between $3,000 and $7,000. If medically necessary, both treatment options may be at least partially covered by dental insurance.
